Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery
From: Richard Samford

My name is Richard Samford, the webmaster of the Pittsburg State University Library web site. I'm contacting you to let you know that the material on one (or more) of your web pages has probably been plagiarized by a Washington D.C. based web site "GirlsGoingOut" (http://girlsgoingout.com/). I am finding so many plagiarized pages on this site, I've had to resort to a 'form letter', although I may add a comment to you personally at the bottom. The page that I found your article copied to is: http://girlsgoingout.com/fashion_articles/fashion_article1.php and your page is located at: http://www.jitterbuzz.com/vinest.html You may have given this web site permission to post your material. Out of the 18 web sites I've located so far (and multiple instances from a few of these sites), I've yet to have anyone tell me that permission was given to use their material. About.com, Time(Magazine).com and Fodors.com are examples of the sites that have been plagiarized.

I discovered this site while working on one of our Special Collections web pages. I found one of our photographs and its caption on their site, and they had copied/pasted in an article that was written by the Kansas State Historical Society. The double plagiarism on the page, along with _their_ copyright statement at the bottom: Reproduction of material from any GirlsGoingOut pages without written permission is strictly prohibited. (Oops! I'm in trouble now...) caused me to investigate further. Your pages were _easily_ found by doing a simple Google search on a phrase from the copied article. In most cases, your pages were the one of the first listed in the Google results.
