About the Model

Combat Competiotion refers to an event in which two pilots fly a control-line airplane at the same time in the same circle. Each plane has a paper streamer attached to it, and the object of the competition is to cutr the other guys streamer with the propellor. At the end of a fixed amount of time, the "fellow" with the most paper remaining is the winner.

This is an exciting event that requires a high degree of skill. A good combat plane will have the highest possible speed with the tightest possible turning ability -- at minimum loss of speed. Model combat is just like the experiences in the skies of Europe during WWII - power and speed are the only things that matter. Lary Scarinzi and Carl Goldberg put some scientific effort into creating what they believed was the ultimate combat machine. About Dawn Cosmillo

The cover and an internal article photo feature Dawn Cosmillo, who was not only (a) a girl, (b) quite attractive, and (C) the Junior National champion at Combat. There was no separate competiotion for women -- Dawn was the best of them all. Needless to say, she attracted a lot of attention.
