Curtiss Model 75 "Export Hawk"

The Curtiss Model 75 fighter was accepted as the P-36. As soon as the Army's requirements were met Curtiss desined an export version. In those days, export airplanes could not be superior to Army planes. Thus, the engineers at Curtiss devised a simplified version of the P-36 with fixed undercarriage. This was given the name "Hawk 75".

Two demonstration examples of the Hawk 75 were built in parallel with the P-36s ordered by the USAAC. Both were powered by a 875hp radial engine. One mounted an armament of one 12.7mm and one 7.62mm gun in the nose, and the other having the nose gunswith a pair of wing-mounted 7.62mm weapons. The two-gun example crashed and the four-gun aircraft was sold to China, who eventually bought 30 of them. later, 29 aircraft were sold to Argentina and 12 to Thailand.
